NEW RECORDS SET IN A MEGA HAUL …
What a week ….. as the cooler weather gave way to glorious sunshine, the fish went … literally … into a feeding frenzy. The late arrival of Spring has had the fishing a little patchy over the past few weeks, but the fish certainly were active this week, and at times we were seeing over 40 Carp a day being banked.
We’ve been keeping records here for a long time, I personally have got records back to 2005 and this week was one of the best we’ve had in those records. 237 fish surpasses the previous best by 27 captures and the total of 38 carp over the 40lb mark, betters the previous best by 5, and all but 1 of the 14 anglers, who put a colossal 3.35 tonnes on the bank, managed to land a 40lb+ fish … Awesome Fishing !!!
Top of the List must go to Richard Read in Niagara. Richard is a member at Elstowe 1, and also runs a fishery, and is a very competent angler …. This showed in his personal tally of 61 fish. Now known to his friends as ‘Greedy Readey’……lol , Rich managed 24 – 20’s, 31 over 30lb including 2 over 39lb and 10 over 40lb, with Mirrors at 41lb 10oz , 42lb 2oz, 43lb 8oz, 44lb 6oz, 45lb 10oz, 47lb 12oz, 49lb 2oz and 49lb 6oz, and Commons of 42lb 12oz and 44lb 4oz he was actually still playing a 40lber as the bus pulled up to take them home ……. Absolutely Awesome Hauling …..
One the opposite bank in S.O.S., Cherpont newby Shaun Youngs soon got to grips with the place. Catching regularly, Shaun managed 30 fish in total with 11- 30’s of which 3 were 38lb+, and 5 over 40lb including ‘Parallels’ now confirmed at around the 61-62lb mark at 61lb 2oz ….. Shaun had a grin from ear to ear for most of the week, and although he didn’t mark it in the Fish Log as such … I’m guessing it was a new PB ….. well done Shaun.
The Amos family (Steve, Natalie and Matthew (11yrs)) were on their second week, and although the numbers of fish didn’t appear in front of them, they all managed to bank fish of 47lb+ , Steve did a few days in McVities and managed a few to 47lb 14oz, while Natalie and Matthew occupied Tooth & Nail, where Natalie had 2 over 40lb at 47lb 12oz and a new PB of 51lb. Young Matthew had another good session, landing several good fish at 39b 2oz, 43b 4oz , 49lb 8oz and 49lb 12oz , that’s 6 fish over 40lb in two weeks, including a 40lb+ Common ! ….. the young lads gonna have the bragging rights, amongst his fishing friends, for quite some time to come!! …. And rightly so …. Top fishing young man.
Tim Page got to grips with Dogs, fishing to the bar at Range (105 yrds) and varying this to the shorter marks at 85 yrds, Tim caught regularly (although he’s gonna have arm ache for a week or so from the throwing stick …. lol). 24 carp in total, with 15 over 30lb including 5 over 40lb to his weeks best of 48b 4oz and
48lb 8oz . One other notable catch came from Richard Bone in Gordys. In a 17 fish haul , Richard banked 10 over 30lb, 7 of which topped 35lb+ and 2 over 40lb at 41lb 8oz, and ‘Long Lynn’, one of our most pretty and prized fish, who has now made it into the ‘Big Girls’ collection at a new best of 50lb 10oz …
As I write this sat on the Patio, I can hear the splashing and crashing of Carp. It looks like they are about to enjoy their yearly orgy, and I think the numbers may be a little less next week, although they don’t all seem to spawn at once, time will tell ….
Tight Lines & Bent Rods , wherever you fish ……………… Cherpont Mick

The latest update from us all at Blavet is that between Christmas and New Year Gordon decided to go and wet a few lines. On Tuesday he caught 1 x 23.8 and 1 x 25.4. Went down for a few hours on Wednesday and about 7.30 p.m. he called me on the radio to come down with the camera as he had a big fish sacked up, I went down to find him playing another fish - he landed it and ended up with 2 x commons 1 x 53.9lbs and another 55.2lbs - in absolutely stunning condition, we knew they were in there but we supprised how big they had got, and who knows how big they will get before spawning. As you can imagine we are both extactic with these catches, no only are they our first commons over 50lbs but both are new p.b.s for Gordon as well. (caught from the Rails swim)

Catch report for www.moorlandfisheries.co.uk 25th April 2009
Hello again everyone. Our fifth week of 2009 over and done and anotherentry into our diary of progress. 9 anglers arrived as one group and Iam pleased to say that all nine left with personal bests and I had made9 new friends.
Theweek was by no means an easy one with the air pressure rising so quickon Thursday that the fishing more or less stopped for the last two daysbut even so some nice fish were landed. We all learned some lessonsfrom the week and the two most obvious ones were that the fish are notyet keen on the sound of the spod this year and also that some baits donot work as well here as others. Some of you will know that I havespent a lot of time messing around with trying to find a bait recipethat will remain fresh after several hours in the lake. I believe thatIan at CC Moore has now managed to make the “Moorland Special LiveSystem” to almost the ultimate clean and healthy boilie that I havebeen searching for. This week seemed to prove that the lads thatstarted out on the Mainline Cell and were really struggling, only hadto switch to the MSLS and they were immediately off the mark. Itappears that most baits will again lose their flavour very rapidly inhere but Ian’s mix remains on the lake bed giving off the “come and eatme” signals for a very long time.
Right, catches. I must say congratulations to Sid who caught 18 fish includinghis PB catfish. (It’s a good job he’s reading this ‘cos he can’t hear abloody thing. Lol.) Congratulations must also go to Wayne for his firstforty at 42.08 lb and to Sean who arrived with a mid twenty as a PB andin search of his first thirty and who left with a brace of 44.00 lbmirrors, and the money. He could have ended with one of the 44’s beingmuch heavier because the scales showed that they had been wound backtoo far when the sling was hung back on them but by then the carp hadbeen released and there was no way of re-checking the weight.personally I think that he did himself out of at least two pounds onthat fish but I guess we will never know. Extremely well done mate.
Iam pleased to see the carp continuing to grow steadily and there isnothing that has interrupted my belief that this year will be thetransition year between forties and fifties with 2010 being the yearthat we achieve numerous fifties being landed. Chunky is actually onepound down on her October 2008 best but is five pounds up on her weight“year to date”. Taking that to the obvious step, if she gets caught inOctober this year she should easily be 51.00 lb plus. The reallypleasing thing is that there are at least another five fish of the sameage group (originals) who are making similar progress and two of themare already much closer to being fifties so could easily be mid fiftiesby the autumn.
Totall captures; 60 fish landed comprising;
11 catfish including 2 fifties and 3 sixties.
49carp including;3 doubles,23 twenties,18 thirties of;33.08 lb, 30.02 lb,38.08 lb, 32.04 lb, 32.08 lb, 30.04 lb, 39.08 lb, 30.00 lb, 31.12lb,34.00 lb, 34.04 lb, 34.02 lb, 33.08 lb, 34.00 lb, 36.12 lb, 32.06lb, 33.00 lb, 35.10 lb.
5 forties of;40.12 lb, 42.00 lb, 42.08 lb, 44.00 lb, 44.00 lb.
Long may these successful weeks continue and I hope you all get the fish of your dreams.

February 2009 Catch report for Oaklands Lake www.carp-fishing-in-france.euAlan, the owner, invited me over for a day's fishing, so on the morningof 27 February I duly arrived. You're late said Alan as I arrived athis swim mid morning. True I said. Just take a look in the net saidAlan, and see what I have just landed. I did and seconds later abeautiful 36.8 mirror lay on the unhooking mat. What a gorgeouscreature exhibiting all her wonderful winter colours. As he slipped herback I wondered if I could beat that. But I did!!
Lessthan 10 minutes later I had hooked into an absolute monster. It was atleast twice the size of the big mirror but unfortunately it was Alan'sdog! It had picked up the baited rig I left on my bedchair and hookeditself. That's good I said to Alan - at least I know the rig works!! Hedidn't laugh. We gently unhooked her and she was fine. During the restof the day we landed 12 carp between us with Alan's biggie being thelargest landed, but we had a good twenty and 10 upper doubles. What agreat day's fishing for the end of February!! Thanks Alan. |
February 2009 Catch report for www.goldenoaklake.com/whyvisit.aspCaught by ex Essex Angler John Imgram.John Imgram had a session toremember on a late February visit to Golden Oak lake. Baiting quitelightly John had a take early afternoon which absolutely ripped lineoff the spool. After a long hard fight he netted this stunning 43.8pound mirror.Looking at the fish's frame this could easily pack on alot of weight this year. What a looker! |
October 2008 Catch Report For www.carpruns.co.uk lake Moulin de Bley 2008October can be a difficult month sometimes due to weather conditions, but this year was to see the lake in October fishing extremelywell. Steve Lawrence from North Lincolnshire and his 2 fishing friendsDan and Matt Murr banked some very nice sized carp.
Steve took 21carp to include 2 x 40s, 17 x 30s to 37lb and 2 upper 20s. Dan took 13carp to 44lb which was a common, 9 x 30s to 35lb, 1 x 27lb common and a15lb common that sneaked into the main lake from the stock pond !. Mattook a cracking 51lb mirror, a brace of 47lb mirrors, 1 x 42lbmirror, 7 x upper 30s to 38lb and 2 x 20s to 29lb.
His average weight was just short of 38lb.”The following week was tosee more of the lakes bigger residents out with big carp being bankedin large numbers making for a good end to yet another fantastic seasonon the Moulin de Bley. Mike Lancer from Bristol took 2 x 50s to 52lb,7 x 40s to 48lb and 23 x 30s to 39lb. Mike also caught the odd few 20sbut admitted that he didn’t weigh or count all of them. Mike bankedover 40 fish in total. Fishing along side Mike in the next peg wasbrother in law Peter Long.
Peter, also from the Bristol area, and better known as “Fat Pete”didn’t have all of the big fish for the week, but certainly kept pacewith Mike in numbers, taking 37 carp from 24lb to 47lb. Peter weighedall of his fish, and did note that all except for 6 x 20s, all of hiscarp were over the 30lb mark with many of them upper 30s. SummaryIt has not been possible for us to include every ones catches in thereport for 2008, and we have taken just a few different accounts togive you some idea of what was achieved when the Bley carp get theirheads down this year.
We apologise to the people who have not beenincluded in the report, some of whom have had very good weeks, or bigfish this year, as we wanted to include in the report a broader rangeof anglers to include the pleasure anglers as well as the more seriousones that visited the Bley. |
| September 2008 - Catch report for www.moorlandfisheries.co.uk/The totals for the last two weeks are as follows. 17 catfish to 60.0 lbplus 94 carp including 32 thirties and 7 forties Top end carp; 35.08lb, 36.05 lb, 36.00 lb, 37.03 lb, 38.10 lb, Common of 41.07 lb Mirrorsof 41.04 lb, 42.13 lb, 45.05 lb, 42.04 lb, 42.03 lb, & 42.07 lb. September 2008 Catch report for www.carpruns.co.uk lake Niroux
September was to see the last of the anglers on the lake for the season, taking carp to 47lb and cats to 102lb.
Simon Grant and brother Chris, both from the Leeds area, banked 14catfish and 25 carp between them in their hectic five day session.
The Leeds boys visited the Lake intending to fish mainly for the bigcats, but edged their bets a bit with a 50 / 50 approach, after seeingthe carp rolling.
They were not disappointed with the carp fishing as a bonus and saidthat the cat fishing was far better than they had expected.
Simon banked 15 carp from 22lb to 41lb, along with 3 x 50lb plus and 2x 60lb plus catfish, whilst Chris took 10 carp from 21lb to 44lb and 9catfish from 38lb to 102lb. Summary- As a relatively new venue to the French carp scene, Etang Niroux isstarting to show that it too has the potential of becoming as popularand as well known as some of the big name lakes that have been aroundfor a while .There are many big carp in the Niroux that have never seena carp angler, and they have yet to be banked, weighed and photographedfor the first time .During 2008 we have to say that we were more thanpleased with the results of those few anglers (and there was only afew) who came to fish it.We are confident that during 2009 some reallybig fish will grace its banks, along with some big hits too, due to theincreased numbers of anglers that have now found the lake and booked itwith us.
Catch Report For Moulin de Bley 2008 September Early September saw one of the better weeks on the lake for the big numbers of the bigger carp
Mat Smith from Tring Hertfordshire took 39 carp to include, 5 x 40s to 48lb,25 x 30s(mostly uppers) to 39lb, and 5 x 20s to 28lb.
Also during this all action week, Nigel Monk from Essex, in his impressive list took his 30th different40lb plus carp at 47lb from the Bley in 4 years. Nigel’s week didn’t end there, as he also weighed a stunning new P B 41lb common and 20other nice sized fish to end his 15th trip to the venue.
This allaction week started within 30 minutes for Lea Brown also from Tring, who took a new P B after just 30 minutes on the lake at 45.12 lb.

September continued to fish well withplenty of carp coming out to anglers to over 50lb. Jane Chadwick fromWorthing, really showed the guys on the lake, that it’s not just a “man thing”, taking a few nice sized carp to include 3 x 40s to 47lb. |

August 2008 Catch report for www.carpruns.co.uk lake Niroux
August was of mixed weather conditions with the carp and catfish feeding most of the time
Paul Alan’s party from Gloucester who came mainly for the big catfish, but also took advantage of the carp fishing took over 50 fish betweenthem.
They took plenty of catfish to 88lb, grass carp to 45lb and carp toover 40lb, with almost all of their carp being over the 30lb mark.
Other anglers during the month saw carp to 47lb, grass carp to 52lb and catfish to 79lb.
Catch Report For Moulin de Bley 2008 August- During August the weather was mixed with heavy rain and flooding on some days, to soaring temperatures on other days.
Despite this, most anglers still had plenty of fish, with some of themtaking over 30 fish each. Notable catches were from Graham Hares fromKent who took 34 fish, to include 5 carp over 40lb,several catfish to64lb plus good numbers of 20lb and 30lb carp. Graham was aided andabetted by his12 year old son Joe, who says that he caught most of thefish on his dad’s rods for him, and showed his dad what to do!!
Thanks Joe for helping your dad, he may bring you again?
On the lake at the same time and helping one of Grahams other son’sDan, was Big Alan, who took 4 different 40lb plus commons, 17 mid toupper 30s to 39lb and
3 upper 20s in the hot peg 7.
First time “ever” carper Dan did manage a 40lb common and a 34lb mirror, and only really fished for 3 days.
We take this opportunity to thank Carp Runs bailiff big Alan for all ofhis help with all of the young carpers on the lake and some of the”bigger boys” this year.
We know some would have struggled a little with out his time andefforts spent with them, and many since their trips have thanked us byletter.
A big thanks, to big Alan, the guy with a lot of time for every oneand a very popular bloke indeed around all of our lakes. |

July 2008 Catch report for www.carpruns.co.uk lake Niroux
Thehigh temperatures in July didn’t stop Martin Corkett from LeightonBuzzard from taking over 40 carp from 18lb to 52lb.Martin took 5 x 40sduring the weeks action along with other carp from 18lb to 37lb.TheBeds angler’s average weight was just over 33lb, with most of his fishcoming at night from short range and heavy baiting .Amongst hisimpressive list Martin also took a 52lb P B grass carp on his lastnight at the venue, and told us that he lost an even bigger one at thenet a few hours later. July continued to fish well with some anglerstaking up to 25 fish in a week with carp to 48lb, and catfish to justover the 100lb mark. Catch Report For Moulin de Bley 2008 July was warm, but we did see a few showers in the early part of the month. This really put the fish on the feed for most of the anglers.
One first time carper in France, and visiting us at the Bley, took 22carp to include 1 upper 20, 19 x 30s to 39lb and 2 x mid 40s. He didsay at the end of the week that he was a bit disappointed with hisresults, and had expected a lot more action. We are at a bit of a lossas to what to think about his comments! but we think that he would befar better off and less disappointed if he took up golf.
On the lake at the same time as the disappointed Mr X were 2 lads fromKent, Dean Aston and Anthony Parker. They took 48 carp between them, almost all 30s to 39lb apart from a few 20s and 5 x 40s to 47lb.
Dean also managed to bank a 70lb plus cat on his carp gear, but wedon’t know exactly how big it was, as it bottomed his scales out at2.30 in the morning.
The following weeks in July continued to fish well, with Luke Bell’sparty from Southampton taking 93 fish from the low 20s to the high 40s.
Dave Killick’s party of 6 from Hertfordshire took similar numbers offish, taking 89 fish of similar weights. Dave himself took 27 fish to44lb.
The end of the month saw the last party of the anglers for July taking90 fish to 46lb,with Fraser Monk aged 12 from Essex, and no stranger tothe lake, taking a cracking brace of 40s along with a few other goodsize carp. |

June 2008 - catch report for www.etangchassin.co.uk Had a few groups of french anglers on around 70 carp to low 40s been out |

June 2008 Catch report for www.carpruns.co.uk lake Niroux
Despitethe heat and difficult fishing conditions, Peter Cook from HavantAngling Hants, still managed to get into the fish in numbers, takingover 30 fish from 20lb to the mid 40s. Pete also had a few cats to 50lbduring what was a very hot week.
Shane Foster from Welwyn GardenCity took 20 fish of similar weights to Peter’s, the following week asthe heat continued.
June was to continue to be hot and Humid, but despite the heat, JoeWright, Editor of Carpology Magazine in his 4 day visit to the laketook 20 good fish to 44lb.
Joe’s 2 other colleges from the Magazine, Ashley and Angus also sharedabout the same amount of fish between them, with Ash taking one of theLakes stunning commons at 39lb to top off his visit.
Please check out the full 4 page article with photographs that waswritten by editor Joe for his magazine for the August 2007 addition ofCarpology on our website.

DarrenJeffrey's from Boston, and his party of 4, fished similar tactics tothe bad boys, using plenty of bait. They took 84 fish between them toinclude 19 x 20s to 29lb, 52 x 30s to 39lb and 11 x 40s to 46lb, and afew catfish. Mark in the party did a new P B 46lb grassy, with otherbig grass carp lost at the net. The Boston boys said, that the fish inthe lake were so powerful, that they just couldn’t believe just howhard and how long the fish fought for. They also told us that aboutanother 30 fish were lost between them during their all action week. Wewould like to add at this point, that for those of you reading thiscatch report and thinking the Boston boys must be novice anglers, youwould be very wrong, as Darren and Mark were top rods on the Bley in2007 with 110 fish between them in one week. Towards the end of May sawJohn and David Simms from Doncaster carrying on from the previous weeksaction, and bagging up with plenty of carp from the dam wall end of thelake. Their week was cut short however, due to John badly hurting hisfoot and having to return to the U K half way through the week with sonDavid. We didn’t get to write down exactly what they caught, but wethink that they had taken more than 30 carp for the half week to theupper 40s, and a catfish to 60lb, as we had spoken to them the daybefore John’s mishap. One other notable catch for the month was fromPaul Owen from tones of tackle 2 u.

Amongst some of the first anglers to arrive on the lake in April were Brett Ades from B A D Baits, along with some friends.

We would add that Linda already holds the Bley record grassy at justover 40lb, and says that next year she is determined to take one of the“real” Niroux biggies.
We asked her, how big do you want um Linda?
Her reply was, how big you got um !! Catch Report For Moulin de Bley 2008 - April -The start of the month was unusually cold for the time of year, butdespite the cold weather the fishing was still quite good.
